Design the screen you see when your Garmin watch is not recording an activity.
On this page
A Garmin Watch Face is the screen you see when your watch is not recording an activity. It owns the everyday home-screen layout: time, date, battery, steps, complications, health values, decorative layers, and low-power display modes.
A Watch Face is different from a Data Field. A Data Field appears inside an activity such as Run or Bike, while a Watch Face is what you return to outside those activities.
What you can create
DialStudio Watch Face projects can be simple or highly customized:
- Templates give you a polished starting point for common face styles.
- Layers draw time, date, health values, shapes, images, and reusable kits.
- Rules change appearance for conditions such as low battery, missing data, charging, display mode, or selected settings.
- Preview scenarios help you inspect typical days, active days, charging, low battery, missing values, and always-on behavior.
- Device versions let one design adapt to multiple watch models while preserving each display-specific layout.
Keep the time easy to find, leave room around curved edges, and verify the final build on the actual watch before relying on it every day.
Build and install behavior
A Watch Face project stores the authored layout, selected data sources, rules, settings, display-mode behavior, and target device. A desktop build turns that project into a signed Garmin .prg file for one watch model.
After installing it, select the face from the watch's watch-face picker. Continue with Create and save projects.
